Help with recording trips, exports, vehicles and backups.

Getting started
Do I need an account to use RitMeister?
No. RitMeister works straight on your iPhone with no sign-up and no password. Your trips are stored on the device itself, so you can start logging right away.
How do I get started?
Add your vehicle first — a name, the licence plate, and the fuel type. Once you've got a vehicle set up you can start recording trips with it. You can add more vehicles later.
Why does RitMeister need my location?
Location is what lets RitMeister log your route, work out the distance, and look up the start and end addresses for each trip. To keep recording while you drive with the screen off, it needs permission to use your location in the background. It's only used to record your trips — nothing leaves your device.
How much does RitMeister cost?
RitMeister is free to download from the App Store. There's an optional Pro upgrade for the full experience — you'll see what's included on the in-app upgrade screen. A Pro subscription is billed through your Apple account, and you can manage or cancel it any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
Recording trips
How do I record a trip?
Tap start when you get in and stop when you arrive — that's it. You can start and stop from the app, a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget, or a Siri shortcut, so you don't have to dig the app out first.
Does it track the distance for me?
Yes. While a trip is running RitMeister follows the route by GPS, adds up the distance, and fills in the start and end addresses for you, so you don't have to read the odometer or type anything.
Can I add or fix a trip by hand?
Absolutely. You can add a trip manually and edit any trip afterwards — adjust the distance, the addresses, the date, or the notes — so a forgotten or mis-recorded trip is easy to put right.
How does private vs business work?
Every trip can be marked private or business. RitMeister learns your regular destinations over time and pre-tags new trips for you; you just confirm or correct it with a tap. That split is what makes the export ready for the tax office.
Vehicles & cost centres
Can I track more than one vehicle?
Yes. Add as many vehicles as you need — your own car, your partner's, the company van — and keep a separate trip history for each.
Can I split trips by client or project?
Yes. Use cost centres to tag trips to a client or project, set a per-kilometre rate for each, and flag trips as billable. Your reports can then be grouped by cost centre.
Can I log fuel and charging?
Yes. You can register fuel fill-ups and EV charging with the price and amount, so your running costs are captured alongside your trips.
Time & billing
Can I track billable hours too?
Yes. Alongside trips you can record work hours per project with an hourly rate, so RitMeister adds up your billable time and the revenue that goes with it.
How do I set my rates?
Set a per-kilometre rate on each cost centre for mileage reimbursement, and an hourly rate for time tracking. RitMeister uses those to total up what a trip or a job is worth.
Reports & export
How do I export my trips?
RitMeister exports a clean spreadsheet (Excel/CSV) that you can email straight from the app — ready for the Belastingdienst, an employer's reimbursement, or your accountant. Most people do this once a quarter.
What's in the export?
Each trip's date, distance, start and end addresses, and the private/business split, with totals — and you can group the figures by category or cost centre so the numbers add up the way you need them to.
Backups & a new phone
How do I back up my data?
Create a backup in the app and it's sent to you as an email attachment. Keep that email somewhere safe — it's your full backup. To restore it, open the email on your iPhone and tap the attachment to import.
How do I move everything to a new iPhone?
Two ways: open your backup email on the new iPhone and tap the attachment to import it, or use Beam to send your data directly from your old iPhone to the new one when they're next to each other.
Does RitMeister sync across my devices automatically?
No — and that's by design. Your trips live on the device, not on our servers, which is how your data stays private. To move data to another device, use a backup or Beam as described above.
Apple Watch & widgets
Is there an Apple Watch app?
Yes. You can't start or stop a trip from the watch, but you can glance at what matters on the go — your current mileage and licence plate (handy when the garage asks), and during time tracking the elapsed time and revenue so far — without picking up your phone.
Are there widgets?
Yes. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show things like your licence plate, mileage, and whether a trip is running, so you can start a trip or check your status in a tap.
Navigation & privacy
Can I navigate to a destination?
Yes. RitMeister can hand a trip's destination off to your navigation app of choice — Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, or Flitsmeister — so you can drive there without retyping the address.
How does the calendar suggestion work?
If you allow calendar access, RitMeister can suggest a destination from an appointment in your calendar, saving you from typing where you're headed. It's optional — you can decline calendar access and still use everything else.
What happens to my trip data?
It stays on your iPhone. RitMeister doesn't collect your trips on a server — the App Store privacy label confirms no data is collected by the developer. The only time data leaves your phone is when you choose to email an export or a backup.
