Swing Keys

Answers to everyday questions

Coming soon to the App Store

Here's how Swing Keys works, from building your key library to reading the rankings. If your question isn't answered below, send us an email — we're happy to help.

Getting started

When and where can I get Swing Keys?

Swing Keys is coming soon to the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later). The app is in English.

What will it cost?

Pricing will be announced at launch. What's already certain: there are no ads and no account to create.

What exactly is a swing key?

A swing key is a short swing thought or cue — 'Slow takeaway', 'Finish the turn', 'Listen for the putt'. Keys are a few words on purpose: a thought only helps if it fits in your head over the ball. Each key can carry an optional line of detail for the fuller story behind the cue.

The app comes with keys already in it — what are those?

On first launch Swing Keys seeds ten classic starter keys ('Grip pressure 4/10', 'Tempo 3:1', and friends) so the app isn't empty. They're ordinary keys: edit them, archive them, or delete them and build your own library from your lessons.

Keys & focus

Why can I only pick two keys?

Because that's the product. You can't fix five things during one swing, so Swing Keys hard-caps the focus at two — try to add a third and it asks you to drop one first. One is even better.

How do I change today's focus?

On the Focus tab, tap Change focus and pick from your library. Your focus stays set until you change it — a good key often carries you for weeks.

What does archiving a key do?

Archiving hides a key from the picker and your day-to-day list without deleting its history — swipe a key to archive it, and use the Archived toggle in the library toolbar to see archived keys again. Delete removes a key for good.

Logging sessions

How do I log a session?

Tap Log a session on the Focus tab. Pick the kind of session and the date, then tap a star rating for how the swing felt. Your focus keys are attached automatically; tap one to detach it if it didn't apply. The whole thing takes about ten seconds.

What counts as a session?

Anything you want the rating to remember: a range bucket, 9 holes, 18 holes, a short-game session, or a lesson. The insights chart colours each session by kind, so you can see whether a key works on the range but not on the course.

What does the star rating mean?

It's your own feel, not measured data: 1 is 'Lost it', 2 'Scrappy', 3 'Okay', 4 'Good swings', 5 'Flushed it'. Rate the swing, not the score — the whole idea is finding out which thoughts make the swing feel repeatable.

Where do I put my score?

In the session's note field — score, what clicked, what didn't. Swing Keys is deliberately not a scorecard app: there's no hole-by-hole entry and no handicap maths, just the note.

Insights & rankings

How are my keys ranked?

By the average star rating of the sessions each key was in focus for, with the session count and the last time you used it alongside. It's simple on purpose: the key you swing best with rises to the top.

What is the trend arrow next to a key?

Once a key has four or more sessions, Swing Keys compares your last three sessions with the earlier ones and shows whether the key is trending up or down — a cue can wear out, and this shows it early.

What do the 🔥 and 💤 badges mean?

🔥 marks a hot key: at least three sessions with an average of 4 stars or better. 💤 marks a stale one you haven't used in over 60 days. A separate section lists keys that have never been taken to the course at all.

Why does it say I should log more sessions?

The rankings only get honest with a bit of data, so below three sessions the Insights tab shows a hint about how many more to log. It's just a hint — everything is visible from your first session.

Tee-time reminder

How does the tee-time reminder work?

In Settings, switch on the tee-time reminder, pick your tee time and how many minutes ahead you want the nudge (5 to 120). You get one local notification with your focus keys right in the text — read it in the car park and leave your phone in the bag. iOS will ask for notification permission the first time.

How do I stop the reminder?

Turn the switch off in Settings — it's a single, one-off notification per tee time, not a recurring series. You can also silence Swing Keys at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications.

Privacy & data

Do I need an account?

No. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to.

What data does the app collect?

None. Your keys, sessions, ratings, and notes stay on your device; the app has no analytics, no ads, and talks to no server of ours. If you email us from the app, the draft ends with the app version, first-install date, iOS version, and device model so we can help — and nothing is sent unless you send it.

Does my data sync or back up anywhere?

No. Swing Keys stores everything on the device it's installed on — there's no iCloud sync and no export yet. If you delete the app, your keys and history go with it.

Will the app fix my slice?

No — and it doesn't try. Swing Keys never analyses your swing and gives no technical instruction; your pro knows your swing. What it does is tell you, after a month of honest logging, which of the thoughts you already own are worth trusting.
